The Passion of St. Justina of Padua

2000
Church of Santa Giustina, Padua, Italy

The reliefs picture the two key moments in St. Justina's chapter in the Golden Legend. On the left door St. Prosdocimus baptizes Justina. The tablet held behind him reads Ego te baptizo, "I baptize you." In other images the ewer becomes his attribute. On the right is the martyrdom. The executioner stands behind Justina's shoulder as he prepares to plunge his gladius into her side, following the command of the Emperor seated on the left.
